Richard Cochran 29cd088347 msg: Detect missing HW time stamps on duplicated messages.
As of 510777deca message layer no longer returns -ETIME.  Callers of
msg_post_recv() are expected to check for missing time stamps themselves,
but the message duplication function followed the obsolete code pattern
of expecting that msg_post_recv() performs the check.  This patch fixes
the method to check properly for this error condition.

Richard Cochran 51b540875f msg: Introduce a method to copy a message.
The transparent clock will want to have two copies of certain messages,
one for forwarding and one for internal use (in the BMCA and for
syntonization).  This patch add a function that duplicates a given
message, including all of the attached TLVs.

Richard Cochran 1f65c3745c msg: Refactor the finding of the TLV suffix on receive.
Now that we have a helper routine to find the suffix, use that instead of
open coding the same logic.  This simplifies the code and consolidates the
definition of which message types are allowed to carry TLVs.

Richard Cochran d14f11fd32 msg: Append multiple TLVs correctly.
The logic that adds TLVs to the end of a message mixes up the 'L'
length in "TLV" with the total TLV length.  As a result, the second
and subsequent TLVs will corrupt the previous TLV in the buffer.  This
patch corrects the code to find the correct offset for the second and
following appended TLVs.

Note that the stack does not currently trigger this latent bug because
only single TLVs are appended.

Richard Cochran 510777deca msg: Move the check for missing HW time stamps into caller.
On the transmit path, the port-level code calls msg_sots_missing()
directly, but on receive this check is buried in the message layer.
With the coming addition of peer to peer one step, the ingress check
will need knowledge of the configured time stamping option.  This
patch moves the check in order to accommodate the exceptional case.

Anders Selhammer f9db6855fd port: Added TAILQ for sent delay_req
In a ptp unaware network (like the telecom profile for frequency sync
G.8265.1), both the RTD and the PDV can be substantially higher than
in a ptp aware network. To achieve more accurate measurements, the
rate may need to be configured higher to get more data and increase
the chance of lucky packets.
In a combination of a high configured rate of delay_req and high
RTD/PDV in network, the risk that the response from the previously
sent delay_req have not been received before a new delay_req is sent
also become high. In that case, the need of storing more than the
latest sent delay_req arise.

This patch adds a queue for sent delay requests so several request can
be ongoing in parallel. When a delay response is received, a matching
request will be searched for in the queue and after processed removed
from the queue.
The stored delay_req will be removed if older than 5 seconds. Check is
made before a new delay_req is sent or announce receipt tmo expires.

Richard Cochran 613f005996 msg: Allow zero length TLVs.
The NetSync Monitor protocol features a TLV with a length of zero.
Our input message parsing assumes that every TLV will have some sort
of payload, and up until now this was true.  This patch adjusts the
parsing code to accept TLVs of length zero.

Richard Cochran 4a8877f904 msg: Introduce method for appending multiple TLVs on transmit.
In order to support multiple TLVs, the transmit code must be able to
append one TLV after another.  This patch adds a method that checks
whether there is room, allocates the TLV descriptor, sets the buffer
pointer, and appends the descriptor to the list.

Richard Cochran 7fe69e7ba0 msg: Populate the TLV list on receive.
This patch changes the receive message parsing code to place each TLV
into the list.  A method is introduced that allows attaching TLVs to
the end of the list.

In addition, msg.last_tlv is converted into a pointer to the last item
in the list.  Because of this change, the transmit code that uses this
field now allocates a TLV before using it.

Richard Cochran ae28894814 msg: Share a static global more globally.
Any code that wants to call one_step() needs to link with the static
global 'assume_two_step'.  This patch moves that variable's definition
from ptp4l.c to msg.c.  Not only is that file the more natural choice
(since the variable is used on msg.h) but also this allows other
programs to call the one_step() function.

Hangbin Liu 43b2f5d120 msg: use last_tlv if there is not enough room for another tlv
If the len is not enought for another tlv process. e.g. one more bytes
padding at the end of message. And we set extra to NULL instead of
msg->last_tlv in tlv_post_recv(). Then the msg->last_tlv will not be
initialised. And program will crash if we read msg->last_tlv. e.g. in
function pmc_show().

Richard Cochran 01dcf7e9ac Properly initialize the message lists.
The message lists are implemented using a TAILQ from queue(3).  The heads
of the list must be initialized using the provided macros, since the field
called 'tqh_last' is non-zero in the initial state.  This patch fixes a
potential null pointer dereference by properly initializing the queues.

Note that there is no actual bug in the current code, because it uses the
lists in such a way as to initialize 'tqh_last' before any dereference.

Richard Cochran b4b5487887 msg: Add missing network byte order conversion.
This patch adds proper byte order processing for the target port
identity field of management messages. This bug was not previously
noticed due to the fact that our client had always set this field
to the wild card port number of 0xffff.

Libor Pechacek 0367bb5f1b Distinguish between ignored and malformed packets
When there is a peer speaking PTPv1 in the network we want to silently ignore
the packets instead of flooding system log with error messages.  At the same
time we still want to report malformed packets.  For that we reuse standard
error numbers and do more fine-grained error reporting in packet processing
routines.

Richard Cochran 1ff9d0d0d2 Align the message buffer to eight bytes.
The 'struct ptp_message" includes a 64 bit integer field, ts.pdu.sec,
and this must be aligned to an eight byte boundary for armv5 machines.
Although the compiler puts the field at the right offset, we spoil this
by packing the struct with 20 bytes of head room. This patch fixes the
issue by realigning the message buffer.

Geoff Salmon f4e8f5be3f support TLVs with flexible size
These flexible TLVs don't need to be represented as a single packed
struct directly in the message buffer. Instead a separate struct
contains pointers to the individual parts of the TLV in the message
buffer. The flexible TLV can only be the last TLV in a message.

Geoff Salmon 533c77115a Check that TLV length is correct when receiving TLVs.
The function, tlv_post_recv, and the functions it calls don't check
the length of the tlv before flipping the byte order of fields. An
attacker (or a really buggy client) can craft a message causing the
byte order of data outside the received message to be flipped.

None of the supported tlvs are large enough to flip bytes outside the
ptp_message struct, which could corrupt the heap. However, it's easy
to mess up the message's refcnt field, leading to memory leaks.

The fix is to check that the tlv length is what is expected when
receiving, and tlv_post_recv needs to return an int to signal when a
tlv is invalid.

Richard Cochran 3d7372d529 Fix memory leak, reference counting, and list handling in message code.
The message code is horribly broken in three ways.

1. Clearing the message also sets the reference count to zero.
2. The recycling code in msg_put does not test the reference count.
3. The allocation code does not remove the message from the pool,
   although this code was never reached because of point 2.

This patch fixes the issues and also adds some debugging code to trace
the message pool statistics.
